Abstract (EN)

With the conquest of Trabzon by Fatih Sultan Mehmed in 1461, Trabzon Armenians, who met with the Muslim administration for the first time, continued to live within the borders of the state with the administrative, financial and legal statuses determined by the Ottoman administration system. In Trabzon, which was personally affected by the negative changes experienced in the Ottoman state center in the 17th century, Armenians started to enter a new social-economic order together with the people of the other city. The Kadı Courts, which Armenians apply for all kinds of problems related to daily life, provide information about the period and show the place the Ottomans gave to the Armenian community in law. The lawsuits arising regarding the Armenian person, family, inheritance, property, trade, tax and other disputes were carried out according to the Ottoman legal rules. The superficial and profound activities of the Armenians living in Trabzon have diversified the history of religion, language, population, settlement and Muslim and non-Muslim relations of the city. Indeed, the Armenian nation, as an Ottoman citizen, was able to express itself legally in the Trabzon court and showed its presence. The Armenians of Trabzon left Armenian, Armenian churches, Armenian settlements based on churches, Armenian culture, Armenian place and person names as a legacy to Trabzon by leaving the other Christian population.
