The relationship between women's attachment styles and levels of loneliness

This research aimed to investigate the correlation of attachment styles and loneliness of married and divorced women. These two variables were examined as related to forms of socioeconomic variables being educational status, duration of marriage, employment status and income levels of participants. Three Dimensional Attachment Styles Scale and UCLA Loneliness Scale together with Demographic Information Form was used to collect the data.The scales were applied face to face. A snowball sample was used; participants were 95 married and 75 divorced females, total of 170 participants responded to scales. A multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Results revealed a significant relationship between attachment styles and loneliness scores of married and divorced females. A significant positive relationship was found between avoidant attachment style and loneliness level. A negative relationship between secure attachment style and loneliness level was also found. Another positive relationship that was found was between anxious-indecisive attachment style and loneliness level. Results were discussed as based on with accordance with the aim of the study.
