Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted in Diyarbakır province in order to examine the effect of gender role on women's choice of profession. By using a semi-structured method interviews were conducted with 30 women living in Diyarbakır who are from different education levels and different profession. The family environment and education process that affect and reinforce women's gender roles were examined through ınterviews. Questions were asked to try to make the effect of the gender role on the choice of profession and the problems created by this role in the profession and in the professional advancement process visible; answers were aimed to be found within the framework of these questions. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the gender role of women that shapes and restricts themselves in the patriarchal social order creates significant obstacles in the choice of profession and in the professional career process. Just as the gender role shows how society's approach to women is, the fact that women face internal obstacles in achieving the goals they want in their profession with the effect of this role has been made visible. It has been demonstrated that only national and international legal regulations will not be sufficient to solve the occupational problems created by the gender role definition, besides, mentality change is inevitable as well
