Abstract (EN)

Networking technology have improved considerably over the last decade. Datasources like military, commercial and medical image databases which needs to beconfidential are stored and processed on the cloud. Likewise, video conferencing, resourcesharing and video on demand applications require reliable, fast and robust securitysystems. Standard encryption methods designed to encrypt text messages can not fulfillimage encryption requirements due to both high correlation among adjacent pixels and vastamount of data. Therefore, encryption methods to process multimedia content like imageand video stream are an active research field for scientists. In particular, application ofchaos theory in multimedia content encryption is one of the active research topics.Fundamentals of cryptography and issues in multimedia content encryption arepresented first. Then general theory of chaos is outlined and similarity to cryptography isinvestigated. An image encryption system with confusion and diffusion based on a chaoticmap is designed and implemented. Statistical and security analysis measures of wellknown test images encrypted by both the chaotic and standard encryption methods arecompared.
