Acoustic evaluation of indoor sports halls for multi-purpose use: The case of Trabzon

Abstract (EN)

Today, sports halls designed for sports activities are also widely used for various events such as conferences and concerts, although their acoustic measurements are not taken into the consideration. Within the scope of this study, Beşirli Centre Tennis Court and Mehmet Akif Ersoy Indoor Swimming Pool, which were built within the scope of European Youth Games in Trabzon Province, were evaluated in terms of acoustics by computer simulation method. In the Introduction chapter, the purpose and scope of the study is stated and related literature studies are examined. In the chapter on background studies, 3D models of the current conditions of the sports halls within the scope of the study were prepared according to the different occupancy rates of the audience areas and the models were first transferred to the simulation program to evaluate the objective parameters of the sound. After obtaining the objective parameter values of the sound, 3D models were prepared again with sound-absorbing mechanisms placed between the existing bearing elements on the ceiling plane of the halls designed for sports, music, and speech activities. The simulation process was repeated by transferring the prepared 3D models to the ODEON V10 program and the objective parameter values of the resulting sound were compared with each other and with the optimum acoustic values in the literature. In the findings and evaluations chapter, the objective parameters of the sound obtained as a result of the simulations for all indoor sports halls were compared with the accepted optimum value ranges. In the last part; conclusions and recommendations are presented.
