Investigation of antimicrobial activities of some macro algae from Black Sea

Abstract (EN)
In this study, three species of macro algae extracts, which grown as naturally in Black Sea coast of our country, were investigated. The extracts of Cystoseira barbata, Ulva lactuca and Corallina elongate were prepared with methanol, chloroform, ethyl acetate and antimicrobial activities of these extracts were examined on test microorganisms as follows: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp., Escheriachia coli, Bacillus subtilis B-354, Staphylococcus epidermidis B-4268, Stapyhlococcus aureus 29213, Candida albicans. Disc Diffusion Methods was used for measure the activity inhibition zones. The results showed that macro-algae extracts used in this study have effect of different levels on the growth of tested microorganisms. The highest inhibitory effect was showed by chloroform extracts of U. lactuca against E. coli.
