Relationship between academic achievement and types of leisure activities an university students

03. SUMMARY The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between academic achievement and types of leisure activities on university students. In addition to this main aim, sex, year of education and department differences are to be studied on attending to leisure activities. The study was recruited from Departments of Science Education Social Sciences Education, Educational Sciences Education and Art Education. In this way, 606 students were randomly selected from target population. The major methodological aspect of the study is descriptive in nature. The instrument used in the study were "the survey of leisure activation" developed by Abadan for university student. Students leisure activity type were studied regarding education department in percentage. The relationship between they types of leisure activity and academic achievement was studied by the mean of x2 test, and same significant differences were found in above mentioned variables. The findings show that sex differences appeared to be significant for type of leisure activity. There is no relationship between year of education and type of leisure activity at the level of statistical significance. Also there is no indication for departmental differences on type of leisure activities. The findings of study on the relationship between academic achievement and frequency of listening radio broadcasting, going to conference and going to theater found to be significant On the other side no relationship found between leisure activities and academic achievement reading levels, frequency of going to movie, cafe and sportive games. As a results, the study does not provide strong evidence for any relationship between leisure activity type and academic achievement at statistical and practical significant level. VI
