Abstract (EN)

Many of the shipyards located in the Yeniçam Shipyard Region, situated in the Yeniay and Çamburnu neighborhoods of Sürmene, Trabzon, began operations in the early 20th century with small-scale wooden boat construction. Today, this region has evolved into a shipbuilding area where modern vessels are constructed. This study investigates the changes made over time in the rudder systems of Black Sea-type fishing vessels produced in the region. In addition, the current state and needs of these rudders were identified through interviews with shipyard managers and vessel owners. Based on the data obtained, a new rudder design was developed for vessel types used in the fishing industry, such as fishing vessels and fishery support vessels. The analyses of each design involved calculating the forces and torsional moments acting on the rudder blade. Accordingly, the required rudder stock diameter and rudder blade thickness were determined. The final design was approved by the Türk Loydu classification society and subsequently manufactured.
