Abstract (EN)

During the Ottoman period, Ağrı, known as Karakilise was signifıcantly more startegically important due to its location both as a border region and on a trade route. Incidents occurring between Armenians and Kurds in the region gained international significance, posing a direct therat to the very existence of the Ottoman Empire. Border disputes between the Ottomans and Iran and Russia's expansionist policies weakened border control. As a result of inadquate border control, banditry and gang activity rapidly escalated and became unsotoppable. Under the shadow of these events, no signifıcant scholraly work has been conducted on the signifıcant scholarly work has been conducted on the signifıcant and strategic eventes that unfolded in Karakilise in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This study aims to provide a scholarly resource on the history of Karakilise.
