Abstract (EN)
In this study, firstly, a general evaluation of signalized intersections in terms of traffic accidents, energy costs and environmental pollution was made using statistical data. Then, the effect of the most appropriate design of lighting at intersections in terms of financial losses and energy costs was analyzed. In this context, firstly, the situation where the same lighting duration was applied at all hours of the day was examined. Secondly, the situations where factors such as working hours and traffic density were taken into account and different lighting options were applied at different hours of the day were evaluated. In both cases, the most appropriate design options in terms of duration were examined and the obtained results were compared in terms of financial losses and energy savings. Then, the effect of the bridge intersection application on financial losses and energy savings was analyzed. In this context, the studies conducted on this subject were examined and a general evaluation was made. The statistical data before and after the bridge intersections in question were collected, a general evaluation of this data was made and interpreted. Then, the effect of the bridge intersection construction on financial losses and energy costs was investigated by considering the daily number of vehicles passing and the waiting times of the vehicles at the bridge intersections taken as examples in Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş. In the first phase of the research, the evaluation of signalized intersections was conducted and the relationship between traffic density and energy consumption at these intersections was analyzed. It was concluded that energy savings could be achieved and traffic accidents could be reduced by using adaptive lighting systems at different times of the day. Shortening lighting times by reducing traffic density outside working hours reduced energy costs and reduced negative effects on the environment. The research suggests the development of a dynamic lighting system that takes traffic density and working hours into account. In the second phase examining the effects of bridge intersections, bridge intersections in Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş provinces were taken as examples and vehicle traffic and waiting times in these regions were analyzed. The findings showed that bridge intersections contribute to traffic regulation, enable energy savings and reduce financial losses. In the light of these findings, it was stated that the number of bridge intersections should be increased and multi-level bridge intersections should be constructed in the regions where they are needed. The study also drew attention to the importance of sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation planning. The necessity of implementing transportation policies that focus on people, take into account the efficient use of local resources, and improve public transportation systems has been emphasized. It has been suggested that the existing infrastructure be used effectively, transportation plans that do not harm urban historical textures be created, and environmentally friendly transportation services be developed. As a result, the study presents important points that should be considered by city planners and traffic engineers in the design and use of traffic lights and bridges. It has been stated that these findings should be generalized and detailed evaluations should be made in terms of environmental sustainability with studies to be conducted in wider geographical areas and different city types in the future.
