Abstract (EN)

With the developing technology, societies are experiencing economic, social and changes. These changes are reflected in the perspectives of business and individuals' careers. In the 21st century, it is important for individuals to make a career and came to the forefront. According to careerism which is a career perception, an individual's career is more important than anything else. Employees devote most of their lives to building careers. They do everything they can for it. Careful emphasis on career can subordinate other things in life and affect work-life balance. Failure to maintain work-life balance may also affect career progression and career outlook. It can lead individuals to options where it is possible to progress in other ways without much work. In this study, the relationship between careerism and work-life balance is discussed. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the relationship between the perception of careerism and the dimensions of work-life balance (conflict from work to family and conflict from family to work). For the purpose of the study, a quantitative research approach was adopted. The study was conducted only on private health sector employees. 135 private health sector administrative staff are the sample of the study. The careerism scale of Feldman and Weitz (1991) was used to measure employees' perception of careerism. Netemeyer, Boles and McMurrian (1996) scale was used to measure work-life balance. The data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS 22.0 program. In this context, frequency analysis, reliability analysis, independent-samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and regression analyzes were performed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that there is a relationship between careerism and work-to-family conflict dimension and family-to-work conflict dimension.
