Synthesis of carbon nanodots from apricot seeds and spectrofluorimetric determination of Hg2+

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the thesis is to create new determination methods by examining the synthesis of fluorescent carbon nanodots from natural waste and their analytical properties. From these natural wastes, various parts with almost no economic value, such as vegetable peels, peeled and discarded fruit peels, seeds, and the parts inside the seeds, can be prepared and used as carbon nano dots (CNN). In this study, KNN from apricot seeds was easily synthesized using the hydrothermal method. The interaction of this fluorescent KNN with metal ions was examined. For this purpose, Li+, Na+, K+, Be2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Sc3+, Y3+, Ti4+, V5+, Cr3+, Mo6+, W6+, Mn2+, Fe3+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Ag+, Zn2+, Cd2+, B3+, Its interaction with 36 cations, namely Al3+, Tl+, As5+, Se2+, NH4+, Au3+, Sb3+, Sn4+, Bi3+, Hg2+, Pd2+ and Pb2+, was examined by fluorescence measurements. It was determined that the synthesized KNN could be used as a fluorescent material in the fluorimetric determination of mercury (Hg2+) ion. Hg2+ ion was spiked into KTÜ tap water, pure water and Gümüşhane Harşit stream water and changes in fluorescence intensity were examined with KNNs synthesized from apricot seeds.
