Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY LINEAR AND NONLINEAR TWO AND THREE DIMENSIONAL STATIC AND DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF ARCH DAMS In this work, linear and nonlinear static and. dynamic analysis of arch dams are performed. For the two dimensional nonlinear analysis, elasto-plastic material model and Drucker-Prager yield surface are used whereas curve description model is utilised for the nonlinear three dimensional both static and dynamic analyses. The differences between linear and nonlinear analysis of arch dams are examined. The two and three dimensional analysis are compared in order to check the validity of the former. For the numerical example, type 5 arch dam is selected as was suggested in the symposium on Arch Dams, London, 1968. The programs NONSAP and SAP90 are employed in the response calculation. This thesis consist of four chapters. In the first chapter, the historical development of arch dams, the previous works, the forces subjected to arch dams, nonlinear behavior of material, and material models are mentioned. The formulation of step-by-step solution is given for both linear and nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. In the second chapter, two and three dimensional finite element model of the selected arch dam are introduced. In the third chapter, the results obtained from the analysis are evaluated. In the fourth chapter, the conclusions and suggestions drawn from this work are presented.
