Abstract (EN)

The problems resulting from the rapid increase in population and urbanization have decreased the quality of life of the city, the majority of which stems from excessive car addiction and the maximum capacity of the traffic load. Roads in which the history of a city is written, information and emotions are exchanged as well as providing transportation are important public places. Therefore, the condition of roads and the construction of dedicated walking routes for pedestrians are of substantial priority to make a city more livable. The thesis aims to reveal the requirement of pedestrianization which makes pedestrian access preferable by reducing vehicle traffic in city centers. Literature chapter analyzes city life, urban transport policies, urban transport, the situation of pedestrians, the contribution of the construction of dedicated walking routes for pedestrians to city life, describes the types of pedestrianization and furnishes good examples. In the district called Trabzon Kahramanmaraş Caddesi in the study, the general condition of the street and the pedestrian densities are analyzed through observations, questionnaires and interview techniques in which the ideas of pedestrians, minibus drivers, street workers and experts are asked about the current condition of the street and its pedestrianization. It is concluded that traffic is the most important problem of the street (45%), pedestrians can't walk along the street comfortably (79%) and the pedestrianization of the street is demanded (75%), which supports the necessity of pedestrianization. As a result, some suggestions are given to improve the street.
