Abstract (EN)
The boundaries in architectural space formulate a multi-layered structure with the combination of elements that shape the space. While constructing the theoretical background of the thesis, the concept of boundary which includes broad and multiple meanings in the city, which has historical and natural elements, the border is not defined as an obstacle but becomes the focus of interaction. Thus it offers a new perspective through physical, social and psychological boundaries. In this thesis it is aimed to explain the changes in such expansions of social, cultural and social boundaries that occur in public spaces and housing typologies with a focus on public-private oppositions interpreted through conceptual discussions in different disciplines. The case study of this discussion is defined as Amasya, a city in Turkey, which has historical and natural elements on which concept of boundary spaces in the new planning approach leads to new expansions with the effect of human. By reading the morphological development and boundaries of the city through its inter-acted spaces and interpreting the changes in spatial structures; it is aimed to understand the transformation processes of the city. The points, where the human and the city interact and communicate define the focus areas of the thesis. The human being, an important actor of the city, changes and transforms the structure of the city through spatial and social actions. Boundary expansions in the city; urban morphological maps, images and cross-sections in accordance with the use and publicity evaluations are examined through the example of Amasya so as to reveal the boundary relations in the natural and built environment.
