Analysis of urban transformation projects in the context of social sustainability criteria; sanliurfa old industrial zone example

The aim of this research is to develop criteria for measuring the social sustainability of urban transformation projects and to test these criteria in the area of urban transformation in the old industrial zone of Şanlıurfa. In our country, a significant portion of urban development policies have been tried to be directed by urban transformation projects especially in the last decade. These projects cover many different areas from urban settlements, which are under the risk of disaster, to urban areas, and to urban areas from illegal urban areas. A significant portion of these projects focus on the reproduction of the physical environment. Although it provides opportunities for the creation of more sustainable urban environments, it is considered that the social dimension is not considered sufficiently in this period. This research draws attention to the social dimension of urban transformation and tries to define the key criteria and indicators for social sustainability. It is thought that the research will contribute to the evaluation of the future urban transformation projects.
