Abstract (EN)
In this study, it is aimed to develop transparent armor material that can be used as an alternative to conventional transparent armor systems, which is lighter, thin and also affordable by commercially. At the beginning of the study, soda-lime glass, which can be easily obtained from the market, was immersed in the KNO3 salt at 450 ºC for 8 hour, 16 hour, 1, 3, 5 and 7 days for ion exchange. Then, hardness and four point bending test were applied for each sample group. In addition, the penetration depth and concentration of KNO3 salt were investigated by the EDX method in the scanning electron microscope. In accordance with the information obtained, a total of 16 ballistic test specimens were produced. The V50 ballistic test performed according to MIL-STD-662F test standard showed 17% better performance of the strengthened samples.
