Study of SME's by altman z and financial ratio analysis methods: BIST energy sector example

The scope of the research is the annual net sales revenue or financial balance sheet size of industrial companies traded in the National Market, Second National Market and Emerging Enterprises Market, excluding the number of employees, included in the definition of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) in the relevant regulation of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. consists of companies that meet any of the conditions. In this study, in which Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Borsa Istanbul Energy (Electricity, Water and Gas) Sector were examined, a financial analysis was made by using tables, graphics and data, taking into account the data of developed countries in the European Union, especially comparisons with Large-Scale Companies. In the study, which is aimed to prepare a specific study related to the energy sector, which is developing and whose importance has increased to a great extent after the pandemic period, performance analysis measurement was tried to be made with the Ratio Analysis and Altman Z Score methodology. The concepts are explained in detail and the findings are used within this framework. The data used in the study were obtained from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). This study aims to analyze the performance of SMEs in the energy sector, and it is important to reveal the figures, developments and trends presented by these companies by comparing them with large companies. In the study, the performance analysis of 7 companies was prepared with 14 ratio analysis findings in total and the Altman Z Score results of 3 companies that gave output in 2016-2021, and meaningful results were obtained and interpreted.
