Local and general elections in Kocaeli (1950-1960)

The 10-year rule of DP (Democrat Party) which has an important place in Turkish political life, has been discussed in many ways. DP, forced out of politics after the military coup of 27 May 1960. After the aforementioned coup period, many new parties were established. One of these parties is the AP, which was founded under the leadership of Ragıp Gümüşpala. AP was established on February 11 1961. AP, provided the support of the people by giving the image of the continuation of DP. The mentioned party organization consists of members from different backgrounds. Especially former Democrats had an important place in the party. The AP, which was in power from 1965 until the memorandum of 1971, became a strong party in a short time. AP, ruled the country alone between 1965 and 1971. Social, political and economic problems experienced during the AP government process brought along the March 12 Intervention. The AP, which was overthrown after this intervention, could not come to power alone again. The AP took its place in history by closing with the September 12, 1980 Military Coup. Having an important place in Turkish political history, the political ideas that the AP put forward after its closure with the 1980 Military Coup continue to exist today. In the study, the establishment process of the AP, the general and local elections it participated in, the Kocaeli organization, the parliamentarians of the period and the speeches of these deputies in the Parliament, and bills of law. The aim of the study, is to make an accurate assessment of the general and local elections held during the AP period. As a result of the effects of the elections on Kocaeli, what kind of changes took place in the city was revealed through impartial and scientific methods. In the researches, it has been determined that there are many studies about Kocaeli province. However, it has been understood that there has been no study regarding the Kocaeli province, within the scope of Justice Party Kocaeli Deputies and their Activities in the TBMM (1961-1980). After determining the subject of the study, a general literature review was carried out in order to determine the sources related to the subject. Then, the newspapers published in Kocaeli between 1961-1977 were examined one by one. Afterwards, the documents in the archives were started to be scanned and the archive documents related to the subject were examined in detail. The accuracy of the information in these sources was determined by comparing the obtained sources with other sources before using them. In this way, the study has been provided to be examined and understandable in a better way. Great attention was paid to the spelling rules and the spelling rules of TDK (Turkish Language Association) were taken as a basis. Care has been taken to use an appropriate method while using the documents obtained from the Republic and TBMM archives. In this context, most of the documents related to the parliamentary activities of the deputies of other parties in Kocaeli, especially the AP, have been obtained and their contents have been thoroughly examined. Each document has been carefully evaluated.
