Abstract (EN)
This prospective randomized controlled independent two-group study was conducted to determine the effect of nursing education based on Kolcaba's comfort theory on the comfort levels of patients undergoing coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention in intensive care unit. After the ethical committee and institutional permissions, the population of the study consisted of all patients who underwent coronary angiography in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit of Istanbul Kartal Koşuyolu High Specialization Training and Research Hospital. The study between 01.04.2023-31.07.2023, and the sample consisted of 60 patients, n=30 for control and n=30 for intervention patients who met the inclusion criteria. The "G. Power-3.1.9.2" program was used to determine the sample size. Data were collected with the Patient Identification Form and General Comfort Scale Short Form. Patients in the intervention group by applying the General Comfort Scale Short Form before the coronary angiography procedure. Then, the scale was applied again after the procedure. Patients in the control group were administered the General Comfort Scale Short Form before and after the procedure. The education given to the patients in the intervention group was created by reviewing the literature and taking expert opinion. Wilcoxon Signed-Ranked Test and Mann Whitney U Test were used to compare the pre-test post-test scores of both groups. Considering the post-intervention mean scores of the General Comfort Scale Short Form, a statistically significant difference was found between two groups on the general comfort scale (z:-1,40 - p:,047). The intervention group had a higher mean overall score after the intervention than the control group. According to the results, the pre-angiography training applied to the participants increased the comfort level in the intensive care unit after angiography. Considering the educational role of nurses, it is recommended to provide education to patients before coronary angiography. Keywords: Education, general comfort, nursing care, coronary angiography
