Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to examine the effect of speech ring technique on the speech skills and attitudes of elementary 5th graders. In the study, a "pre test–final test control group" pattern was applied. The universe of the research is made up of 5th grade students from Kavaklı Secondary School in Akçaabat district of Trabzon province in the 2020-2021 academic year, and the sample is of students studying at Kavaklı Secondary School 5/A and 5/B branches of Akçaabat district, Trabzon province. As a result of the preliminary test scores, 16 of these students selected by random sampling formed the experimental group and the other 18 formed the control group. Speech ring technique was applied to the experimental group and the control group was taught by traditional method. In the study, both groups were given a preliminary test and a speech skills attitude scale and a speech skills observation and evaluation form as a preliminary test. In addition, both groups were followed up with the Speech Skills Observation and Evaluation Form during the application. In the process of analyzing the data of the research, descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage), normality tests, independent samples t-test and dependent samples t-test were used. As a result of the findings obtained by analyzing the data; No statistically significant difference was observed between the study and control groups in terms of pre-test mean scores. There was a significant difference in favor of the experimental group between the post-test scores of the experimental group students who were educated with the speaking ring technique and the control group students who were educated with the traditional methods and techniques. While a statistically significant difference was found in the pretest and posttest scores of the study group, this statistically significant difference could not be reached in the pretest and posttest scores of the control group. In light of the data obtained as a result of this study, it was found that the speech ring technique is more effective in developing students ' speech skills and demonstrating a positive attitude to speech than the traditional learning method.
