Investigation of the relationship between care burden, daily life activity performance, emotional status and body awareness of caregivers of children who have speech problems and sensory integration problems

Our study, in which we aimed to examine the relationship between the care burden, daily living activity performance, emotional state and body awareness of the caregivers of children with speech problems and sensory integration problems, was designed as a case-control. A total of 96 caregivers participated in the study. Participants completed the Beck Depression Scale, Body Awareness Scale, Nottingham Health Profile, Zarit Caregiving Burden Assessment Scale, and Family Impact Scale. Paired Simple T-Test was used to analyze the data. The variables were evaluated and the experimental and control group scores were compared. As a result of statistical analysis, similarity was found between the participants' age, gender, caregiver age, number of children, and family type characteristics between our case and control groups. Depression, body awareness, family influence level, quality of life and caregiving burden scores of caregivers in the group whose children received therapy were found to be higher (p<0.05). It is seen that there is a statistically significant positive relationship between the familial and social impact sub-dimension scores and quality of life scores of the control group participants. Caregiving burden in the case group; It has been observed that it can be explained by the caregiver's depression score, body awareness, quality of life, caregiving burden, and family impact scores. According to the groups of the participants, caregiving burden, body awareness, depression level, family impact level, financial burden dimension, familial and social impact dimension, personal There is a statistically significant difference between the strain dimension, coping dimension, quality of life, pain, emotional reaction, sleep, social isolation, physical activity and energy scores. It was found that the most effective variables in explaining the caregiving burden in caregivers were depression score, body awareness and family influence level scores. Increased caregiving burden in caregivers is associated with symptoms of depression and anxiety. It seems that symptoms of depression in the caregiver are of great importance in explaining the care burden, daily living activity performance, emotional state and body awareness.
