Examination on housing and social sustainability relation through household diversity

Globalizing life dynamics changes especially the community characters of cities and lifestyles of the individuals forming the community today. Changes of the individuals in the life course, life cycle and everyday life lead to diversification of household structure and make the existing ones more visible. Contrary to the changes in the households, presentation manner of housing and its environments are becoming more standardized in order to meet the increasing residential need due to the process focused on the speed and economic profits. Life environments becoming the same do not meet the communal and personal needs and requests of diversified household structures. This situation prevents the satisfaction of the individuals in their residences. Housing and its environment where prosperity, persistence and social capital was not provided due to problematic social environments did not reach the social sustainability goal. The aim of the study was to address housing and social sustainability relation through household diversity in order to draw the attention to this problem. Within the scope of the study, this relation became visible and the contribution of the designs in the view of household diversity with the social sustainability was tried to be found. The literature focusing on the user and household diversity of social equality and community sustainability of social sustainability and needs of these groups in the housing and its environment was presented in the study. The relation between them was examined by covering the scales of the housing, housing estate and close environment. Criteria determined within the scope of user diversity and social sustainability relation was questioned by survey technique in the field. Survey data was analysed using the SPSS program. As the result of the evaluation, it has been observed that the needs of different household groups were changed in the scale of the housing and its environment. It was concluded that users continued to live in the housing and its environment without any satisfaction or moved by necessity because their needs were not fulfilled.
