Özet (EN)
Since the dawn of humanity, people have been in search of a secure place to sustain their lives, endeavoring to meet their shelter needs by transforming their surroundings. This quest for shelter has evolved over time, adapting to the conditions of each era and reaching its current form. Differences among users and changing living conditions have led to the diversification of dwellings. Housing is an indispensable concept for individuals, and over the progression of time, residences, in parallel with the development of humanity, undergo spatial changes while carrying the traces of past cultural features. The economic and societal changes brought by the 20th century have also impacted dwelling spaces. Particularly from the 1950s onwards, the rapidly increasing population in Gaziantep, accompanied by the need to provide suitable housing for this growing population, demographic shifts, socio-economic changes, and urban planning applications have all contributed to the transformation of residential spaces. This research aims to analyze the fundamental principles of residential structures in the city of Gaziantep and the spatial transformation process they have undergone. Starting with Traditional Gaziantep houses, selected examples of the first apartment buildings and contemporary residences have been examined. Evaluations were conducted by comparing the residential plans examined within the scope of this study.
