Abstract (EN)
Over the last 50 years, several equations have been derived and developed to determine the local scour depth at bridge abutments, many of these formulas are derived based on laboratory experiments, and just a number of these formulas have already been derived using field data. To determine the scour depth in real cases sometime the result using of field datasets at limited conditions leads to uncertainty in the using of abutment-scour formulas. The economical and safe design of bridges depend on accurate forecasting of the local scour around the abutment, which the temporal variation of local scour at abutment can provide an exact prediction of scour depth, particularly during the flood. Therefore, design of foundation level based on temporal scour depth is more accurate than that for equilibrium scour depth, therefore the main purpose of the present work is to compare the performance of six bridge abutment scour equations with experimental data.
