A comparison of novels with Köprüaltı Kids and An Ali from the Streets in terms and conditions

Language is the most important element that creates a nation. Thanks to language, nations continue their existence and direct their social lives. Humans are social beings who communicate. Language, which is the basic element of communication, continues its existence thanks to its vocabulary. Therefore, the richer the vocabulary of a language, the stronger the communication. Studies on vocabulary have increased in recent years. The Ministry of National Education gives place to the development of vocabulary in Turkish lessons at the level of the main purpose. In this respect, it is important to develop children's vocabulary from an early age. To reveal the vocabulary in these works in the field of children's literature, to compare the works by revealing the messages given in the works, with this study titled "Comparison of the Vocabulary of the Works named "Köprüaltı Çocukları" (Huriye Öniz) and "One Ali from the Streets" (Canan Tan), It is aimed to contribute to the literature by revealing the contribution of the works to the children's vocabulary and the effect they can have on the child in terms of the messages they give. Document analysis method and descriptive scanning model were used in the study. First of all, information was given about children's literature, story and novel in children's literature, characteristics of story and novel. Vocabulary, the elements in the vocabulary, educational message were introduced and then Huriye Öniz and her work, Canan Tan and her work were introduced. In the findings and interpretation section, the vocabulary items (basic vocabulary, idioms, proverbs, reduplications, terms, formulaic words) in the works were determined and interpreted by showing them in the form of tables and graphics. It has been observed that the works named "Köprüaltı Çocukları" and "A Ali from the Streets" are rich in terms of vocabulary, but proverbs are not used in both works. When the graphics and tables are examined, it is seen that the work named "A Ali from the Streets" is richer in terms of vocabulary than the work named "Köprüaltı Çocukları" . The educational messages in both works were interpreted as sentences. When we look at the messages, the works are about cooperation, solidarity, tolerance, bad results caused by harmful habits, goodness, truthfulness, honesty, justice, etc. It has led to the conclusion that it draws attention to many situations and that there are works that can appeal to the affective world of children in terms of messages. In addition, the pictures in the works were also examined in the context of visual reading and it was concluded that the pictures in the work named "Sokakanlar Bir Ali" were compatible with the situations and were complementary. It has been seen that some pictures give messages in harmony with the text in terms of message. In the work called "Köprüaltı Çocukları" , it was seen that no painting was used. In this respect, it has been concluded that Canan Tan's work is richer in terms of visual message, but both of her works contribute to child development as a children's literature product.
