Comparision of the leg and ARM CYCLE ergometer exercises in terms of the effects on physical and psychological functions in patients with undergoing coronary arter bypass surgery

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to comparision of the leg and arm cycle ergometer exerci-ses in terms of the effects on physical and psychological functions in patients with undergoing coronary arter bypass surgery. This study 39 subjects (35 men, 4 women) which consisted of participants aged between 52-65 divided as leg (n = 23) and arm (n = 16) cycle ergometer group. After saving demographic data of all participants physical and psychological functions were evaluated before and after training while 6 minutes walking test, bioempedance analyse and blood tests for HDL, LDL, triglycerides and total cholesterol were perfomed to all participa-tions for phycial functios. pyschosocial functions were evaluated by beck de-pression inventery, Borg fatigue scale and Short Form-36. Leg or arm cycle ergometer exercises were performed to all participations during 6 weeks as 5 times a week and totally 30 session. When results compared the bicycle ergometer group showed grea-ter improvements in walking distance than the arm ergometer group. When the groups compared walking distance of leg cycle group was more than arm cycle group was more than arm cycle group significantly (p <0.05). At the same time of the arm cycle ergometer group, general health parameters of SF-36 were determited sta-tistically showed significant difference (p <0.05). This study showed that both arm and leg cycle ergometer exercises treated physical and pyschosocial functions of pati-ents with undergoing coronary arter bypass surgery similarly . However, leg cycle exercises were determited to be more effective for improvement of functional capaci-ty.
