Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to reveal the level of socialisation skills of 6th ? 8th grade primary school children who stay in orphanages. The research has been done in 6 different orphanages in 4 provinces. The data has been obtained from qualitative and quantitative research methods at the same time. The qualitative data have been gathered by Socialisation Skills Scale (SSS) which is developed by the researcher, and is tested its validity and security. The obtained data have been analysed by SPSS programme. Also, the quantitative data have been reached by half-structured interviews with 33 students who are selected randomly from the sample group. In the research, a remarkable difference has been found between the gender factor and the socialisation skill. It has been seen that there is no significant relation between total points and age, duration of residence in the orphanage, status of parents? being alive and number of brothers/sisters. To the qualitative data of the research, it has been determined that the children who are in need of protection do not have any problem with their friends. It has been seen that these children have endeavoured to be a good member of the society, and they wish to adapt the society in which they live. All children participated in this study have expressed some imperfections in the structures and operations of orphanages, and it has emerged that the model of institutional care have to be reconsidered because of the negative effect of institutional care on children.2012, page:96Keywords: Social services, children in need of protection, socialisation, orphanagesScientific Code: 6041?
