Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to determine the effect of the antioxidant process on the clinical and blood parameters of the calves by using the caustic paste method with and without painkiller. A total of 24 calves constituted the study material. The cases were randomly divided into 2 groups of 12 calves in each group. The cases were randomly divided into 2 groups of 6 calves in each group. In the 1 group, 30 minutes before the application, flunixin meglumine at a dose of 2.2 mg / kg was administered intravenously and the horn blunting was performed by caustic paste method. Blood samples were taken at 15, 30 and 60 minutes after completion of horn blunting and clinical findings were recorded. In group 2, the horns of the icebergs were blunted with the same technique. Blood samples were taken at 15, 30 and 60 minutes after completion of horn blunting. Total oxidant and antioxidant capacity (ELISA), GSH, SOD, superoxide anion, cortisol (ELISA), glucose, 8-OH-deguanosine (ELISA) measurements were performed in both groups. In the group without flunixine meglumine, cortisol was increased significantly from the 15th minute (p <0.005), but there was no increase in the 30th and 60th minutes in painkiller administered group. Total oxidant capacity (p <0.001) and 8-OH-deguanosine (p <0.05) values were significantly higher in the group without painkiller while SOD, GSH and total antioxidant capacity levels (p<0.05) were significantly decreased. Glucose levels were higher in the group not using painkillers than those used at 30th and 60th minutes (p <0.05). In conclusion, antioxidant system supports the pain relief given before horn blunting, reducing cortisol level and oxidative stress.
