Abstract (EN)
Especially after the Industrial Revolution, the effects of climate change have accelerated, and climate change has become a global crisis. This process has brought about numerous issues, such as increased greenhouse gas emissions, rising global temperatures, rising sea levels, and an increase in extreme weather events. It has become critical to reveal these effects in natural areas and built environments and to ensure their effective management. The protection and sustainability of coastal areas, which serve as habitats for many organisms, facilitate various activities, and provide equal usage rights for the public, play a crucial role in maintaining natural processes and ecological balance. This study has been prepared to reveal the effects of climate change on the coastline and surface temperature within the boundaries of İğneada and to develop design strategies aimed at mitigating these effects. The data collected and produced in line with the study objectives have been analyzed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Google Earth Engine software. The calculated land surface temperature (LST) values have been integrated with CORINE data from 1990, 2000, 2006, and 2018, as well as natural thresholds, to elucidate the interaction between LST and land cover change. Island-based analyses related to the area have been prepared, establishing a relationship between these analyses and LST. To visualize the coastal changes due to one of the effects of climate change, namely rising sea levels, coastline delineations for the years 1990 and 2023 have been created, and the progression status has been presented. Thus, the effects of climate change on the natural and built environment in the study area have been analyzed, and recommendations for mitigating these effects have been developed.
