The effects of the natural environment features of the Kumalar River (Dinar) basin on human end economic geography

This study has been carried out with the aim of presenting the existing problems of the area and suggesting solutions for the identified problems by examining the relations between the natural environment features of the Kumalar River (Dinar) basin and the human and economic geographical features. In the Kumalar River basin, there are 22 village settlements including 19 villages in Dinar (Afyonkarahisar), 2 villages in Kızılören (Afyonkarahisar) and a village in Keçiborlu (Isparta). In this study, qualitative data collection methods such as literature review, analysis of public institutions statistics, observation and interview were used and in the research area, how the amount of population has changed according to years, distribution of population and settlements, types of dwellings, building materials used in the construction of dwellings, agricultural and animal husbandry activities which are the basic economic occupations of the local people and the relations between the physical geography factors affecting them have been discussed. In addition, the status of education and health services carried out in the research area has been put forward and a number of social and economic problems have been emphasized. As a result, in rural settlements in the research area, the population is constantly decreasing by the migration to the surrounding provinces, especially to Isparta and Dinar due to the mechanization of agriculture, unemployment, lack of education and health services, the lack of socio-cultural needs and the desire for a better life. Due to the decrease in the population in the research area, the potential arising from the natural environment conditions is not adequately evaluated by the local people and this situation causes the socio-economic backwardness of the area. Measures to be taken against the problems determined in terms of physical, human and economic geography in the research area will contribute to the development of the area and the correct use of the country's resources.
