Synthesis of surface active monomer containing coumarin and its role in the preparation of nanocomposite

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the surface active monomer containing coumarin side chain will first be synthesized according to literature. The surface active monomer will be characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR techniques. On the other hand, the cation exchanging of natural Na-montmorillonit clay of which the cation exchange capacity have been known will be carried out and thus organically madofication of Na-montmorillonit clay will be accomplished. After purification of organomodified montmorillonit clay, the nanocomposites of polymer/organomontmorillonit clay (OMMT) at different percentages (1%-7%) will be prepared by in situ polymerization method as given in literature. Nanocomposites will also be characterized by FT-IR and 1H-NMR techniques. The interlayer spacing of organoclay platelets and prepared polymer clay nanocomposites will be determined by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy and transition electron microscope. The exfoliation/intercalation behavior of clay dispersion in the polymer matrix will also be investigated for every nanocomposite. Thus, the role of surface active monomer containing coumarin group on the preparation of nanocomposite will be discussed. Thermal behaviors, thermal degradation activation energies and mechanisms of nanocomposites will be investigated. For this purpose, thermogravimetric analysis method will be used and a programmed heating, from ambient temperature to 500 oC at different heating rates, will be apply to composites. Some assessments will be carried out by using different kinetic methods and from those results.
