Abstract (EN)
In its simplest term, describing unlimited movement of values such as property, capital, knowledge and culture, globalization process is the conversion of existing social structure and institutions within the frame of unique conditions. The nation state is one of the social structures and institutions, which has been forced to be converted by globalization process. In this process, the sovereignty of the nation-state has changed significantly, and to some authors, the efficiency of the nation-state has completely disappeared. Another social structure being converted and changed through the globalization process is cities. In fact, globalization has a deep impact on economic, socio-cultural and spatial aspects of cities. Without doubt, the nation states have been influenced by such changes in cities. Although, there is an impact of cities on a nation state, it is not at the level that may eradicate the nation states from the stages of history, at least in predictable future. In this study, the answers have been sought for the questions: to what extent the cities have influenced or will influence the sovereignty of the nation states and how the future of nation states will be. Key words: Globalization, nation-state, city, world city, future of nation states
