Abstract (EN)
Since the 1950s, spawning migration in Turkey have been main reason for the elements of the formation of urban problems. The economic and social problems that have emerged along with emigration have revealed themselves in the habitations of people as well and the rise of shanty- towns has began to advance rapidly. Therefore, this shanty-town advancement has brought about inferior habitations. Moreover urban regeneration applications have been started in order to turn the inferior habitations into healthier ones.It is aimed with this study to look, in the context of the principles of the landscape architecture, into the decisions for area utilization in the scope of the North Ankara Entrance (VIP Road) Urban Regeneration Project, which is one of the most comprehensive urban regeneration projects of Ankara.The study covers in theoretical context the concept of urban transition and area utilization standards as well as a literature review of the historical process of urban . The applications of urban regeneration projects in Europe and Ankara have been reviewed in this context and their similar and different aspects of have been specified. The urban regeneration laws and regulations in Turkey have been also examined.Under the study carried out on the North Ankara Entrance Urban Regeneration Project, the existing physical and socio-cultural characteristics of the area have been evaluated on the project along with theoretical knowledge.As the result of the study, the North Ankara Entrance Urban Regeneration Project has been associated with the exemplary applications, deficiencies have been defined from legal viewpoint, defects to stem from the physical characteristics of the project area have been detected and shortcomings and faults have been determined at the extent of physical planning, for which proposals of solution have been developed.In addition, it is indicated in the study that the urban regeneration projects have to be handled not from the physical aspect only, but also in economic, social and cultural terms and it is preeminently emphasized, in order to ensure the sustainability of the urban regeneration projects that physical planning has to be made on the basis of ecologic data, especially for the habitation regenerations.
