Effects of the North Atlantic Oscillation frost days in Türkiye

Abstract (EN)

The North Atlantic Oscillation has a particularly large impact on the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere. The index of this oscillation, which arises from the pressure difference in the northern and southern parts of the Atlantic Ocean, has great effects especially on the Anatolian Peninsula. In this study, large-scale connections were evaluated one by one, and the effects of positive and negative emission index on the number of frosty days seen in November, December, January, February and March in our country were discussed. For this purpose, Pearson correlation coefficient was used. The effects of the NAO index on the number of frost days in our country in November, December, January, February and March were evaluated on a regional scale. For this purpose, the Aegean, Marmara, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Central Anatolia, Southeastern and Eastern Anatolia Regions were evaluated separately. As a result, it was concluded that the effects of NAO on the number of frost days in my country were greater in November, December and March than in January and February.
