Abstract (EN)

Numerical and physical modelling studies in shore protection and sediment trapping have been rapidly continuing recently. Various type of structures are used in shore protection and littoral sediment trapping studies. Groins are one of these structures. The main hydraulic function of groins is to control the long shore current and littoral sediment transport. In this study, the effects of straight and T shaped groin parameters in shore protection and sediment trapping are empirically studied. The data of Eastern Black Sea Region are used in the study. In the first chapter, general knowledge about groins and wave mechanics, the results of literature studies and the sediment regime and wave climate of the region are presented. In the second chapter, the physical model and numerical model studies are presented. In the third chapter, the results of the model tests and computer program of shoreline change are given. In the fourth chapter, the results obtained from the model studies are examined. The results are compared with the results of computer program. In the fifth chapter, conclusions of this study are presented. In the sixth chapter, the suggestions are given. Keywords: Groins, Littoral Sediment Transport, Shore Protection, Wave Mechanics, Parameter of Amount of Accretion, Numerical Model
