Preparation of antibacterial thin films obtained from linalool by using plasma polymerization

Abstract (EN)

In this study, antibacterial effect of the thin film (ppLin) synthesized linalool monomer on the surface of glass substrate by using plasma polymerisation technique was investigated. The plasma polymerization unit was used to form a thin film of linalool monomer at 20W and 15W electrical currents for 15 and 30 minutes and at 500mTorr pressure on the surfaces of glass substrate. FTIR, SEM, AFM analyzes were performed for the synthesized ppLin. The hydrophilic characterization of the surface was determined by measuring contact angle of samples. Antibacterial properties of ppLin against E.coli (ATCC 25922) and S.aureus (ATCC 29213) were tested. The result have showed that the best antibacterial adhesion effect was for ppLin thin films produced at 20W for 15 minutes at E.coli and at 20W for 30 minutes at S.aureus. Antibacterial effects of ppLin thin films were determined according to McFarland 0.5 standard. 20W for 15 minutes of ppLin thin films resulted in 6% reduction on the first day and in 10% reduction at the end of the fourth day of E. coli examination. 20W for 30 minutes of ppLin thin films resulted in 4% reduction on the first day and in 87% reduction at the end of the fourth day of S.aureus examination.
