An assessment on the situation of art history education for vocational tourism education in the universities of undergraduate tourism guiding education

This research, which its main purpose is to determine the position of tourism education teaching art history and helpful diciplines to the art history in the departments of tourism guiding, was done in the departments teaching undergraduate tourism guiding education in Turkey. Participants were selected from instructors who teach the related courses in these universities and tourism guides who graduated from these universities. Data was collected from participants who were volunteers consisting of 20 instructors and 10 active tourism guides, by using interview technique and was analysed by the content analysis technique. General information about the research was explained in the first section of the research. The conceptual framework was formed in the second section. In the third section, the research metod was explained and in the fourth section, the research findings were discussed. The courses like art history, archeology, mythology and religions history which are considered to be necessary in terms of professional knowledge was evaluated sufficiency in terms of application and content. A new curriculum consisting of theoretical and practical knowledge should be regulated by specialists and professional tour guides, related courses should be taught by specialists to build scientific infrastructure and in order to learn practical information should be taught by professional tour guides, besides the necessity of more useful curriculum for the profession by reorganizing the content, type and duration of the courses were emerged, as well.
