Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the social appearance anxiety levels of high school students in terms of different variables. The population of the study consists of high school students studying in Bitlis and Yozgat provinces, and the sample of the research is randomly selected 247 male, 249 female students in Bitlis and 201 male and 165 female students in Yozgat in 2018-2019 academic year. In order to collect data; "Personal Information Form, which includes questions about obtaining demographic information such as gender, age, income status, sports status and duration of sports, was used. To measure students' social appearance anxiety, 'Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS)' was used. SAAS was developed by Hart and friends (2008) and translated into Turkish and validity - realizability checked by Doğan(2010). In order to analyze the data obtained through the scales, studies were carried out on the processing of the data. First of all, the scales filled by the students studying in Bitlis and Yozgat were checked in detail. Incomplete or incorrectly completed questionnaires were not evaluated. Then, the questionnaires suitable for the research were transferred to the computer and evaluated in the analysis of the data. For the analysis of the data; SPSS 22.00 software was used to transfer the data to the computer. Descriptive analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. These are Frequency, arithmetic mean, standard error, standard deviation and percentage distribution. Independent-Single Sample T Test was used to determine the difference between two independent variables and social appearance anxiety level and One-Way One Way test was used to determine the difference between more than two different variables and social appearance anxiety and the results were evaluated according to P <0.05 significance level. Correlation and regression analyzes were performed to determine the relationship between social appearance anxiety and age. According to the results of the research, a significant relationship was found between the social appearance anxiety levels of the students and their ages. Social Appearance Anxiety levels of students decreased - ,010 points, as students' ages increased by one point. It was found that there was no significant difference in the significance level of p <, 050 after the t test to compare the social appearance anxiety levels of female and male students (p <, 183). However, it was observed that the social appearance anxiety levels of male students were higher than female students. There was no significant difference in the significance level of p<,050 after one-way ANOVA test in order to compare social appearance anxiety levels of students with different family income levels.(p>.020, p>,040). It was found that the social appearance anxiety levels of students whose family monthly income level was 4000 tl and above were lower than those between 100-2000 tl and 2001-3999 tl. As the monthly income level of the students increases, it is observed that the social appearance anxiety level decreases in the opposite rate. After the t test to compare the social appearance anxiety levels of the students who did and did not do sports, it was found that there was a significant difference in the significance level of p<, 050 (p<, 001). It was found that the social appearance anxiety levels of the students who stated that they did sports were lower than those who stated that they did not do sports. After the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test to compare the social appearance anxiety levels of students with different sporting duration , there was no significant difference in p <0.05 significance level (p> .029). It was found that the social appearance anxiety levels of the students whose weekly sports duration was 10 hours or more were higher than the students whose weekly sports duration was 7-9 hours. It was found that there was a significant difference in the significance level of p <, 050 after the t-test to compare social appearance anxiety levels of the students studying in Bitlis and Yozgat (p>, 000). It was found that social appearance anxiety levels of the students studying in Bitlis province were higher than the students studying in Yozgat province. Key Words: Social Appearance Anxiety, Sports Status, Demographic Information, Frequency, Arithmetic Mean, Standard Error, Standard Deviation, Percentage Distribution
