Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate human dispositions such as anxieties and motivation attitudes playing a role while learning a foreign language. This study is a descriptive research carried out by the survey method as one of the quantitative research methods. In this research, the main issue to be questioned was, whether anxiety and motivation had any effect on academic success while learning a foreign language. The sample group of the study included 160 students at 10'th and 11'th grade from four Anatolian High School at Kadıköy district of Istanbul, within the 2015-2016 academic year. A questionnaire related to Foreign Language Anxiety and Foreign Language Motivation Scale was used in the study for obtaining data, which were then transferred into the digital media and analyzed via SPSS program version 15. The results of this study have shown that students experience difficulty speaking in a foreign language public afferents their motivation in the foreign language learning process negatively. According to the demographic features, some gender differences were determined, concerning a few of the anxiety related issues and motivation sources. Motivation problems differed among the students according to the education level of the father. Data have been discussed in the light of related literature.
