Early dysfunctional schemas of drug addicts and their dysfunctional coping styles: A review from the perspective of schema therapy

ABSTRACT In the framework of the basic questions determined in this study, various demographic characteristics of the substance addicts, early adaptation schemas and the functions of disruptive coping were investigated. The study included 50 substance addicts and 50 non-drug users. In the study, gender characteristics of both the case group and the comparison group and the numbers of the participants were equal. In this study, demographic information form, Young Schema Scale Short Form 3, Young Rygh Avoidance Scale and Young Compensation Scale were used. Chi square and t test were used to find answers to the basic questions of the research. As a result of the analyzes, it was found that the substance addict group had significantly higher scores than the YŞÖ, YR-IR and YTÖ scales compared to the comparison group. According to the comparison group, the group with substance addiction scored significantly higher than all the schema dimensions and all sub-dimensions in avoidance and compensation scales.
