Internet addiction and attachment in male patients with substance use disorder

The aim of this study is to compare internet addiction and attachment style between substance use disorder patients and healty controls, also establish attidutes towards internet use attachment styles and reveal if there is a relationship with sociodemeografic data, attachment, internet addiction and substance use characteristics. We included 50 male substance use disorder patients who were hospitalized in Yedikule Surp Pırgiç Armanien Hospital to our study. 50 male volunteers who had no substance use disorder were included as a control group. Sociodemographic data form, Addiction Profile Index Clinical Form (BAPI-K), Addiction Profile Index Internet Addiction Form (BAPINT) and Expreriences in Close Relationships Revised were applied to the patients and the control group. Anxious and avoidant attachment were both significantly related to the lack of assertivity. Our research indicate that anxiety, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, lack of assertivity and substance use are related to life-style effects. Depression, anxiety, anger control failure, excitement seeking behavior, impulsivity subscales of BAPI- K and diagnosis subscale of BAPİNT significantly different between patients with substance use disorder and healthy controls. Patients had a higher average of depression, anxiety, anger control deficit, excitement seeking behavior, and impulsivity than the control group, the control group has a significantly higher score in the diagnostic dimension. The results have been discussed in the light of the relevant literatüre.
