Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to develop guide material according to students needs about transferring concepts to daily life in elaborate stage in Matter and Heat unit and to investigate the effects of this guide material on students? achievement, conceptual change, associating concepts with daily life and explaining events with reasons. Semi-experimental research design was used in this study. Guide material is developed based on elaborate stages of ?Meat and Heat? unit. Pilot applications are done with 6th grade 25 students. Main application is carried out with 6th grade students. The sample consists of 33 experiment and 34 control group students. Data are obtained with; Matter and Heat Unit Conceptual Understanding Test (MHUCUT), Matter and Heat Unit Achievement Test (MHUAT), Matter and Heat Unit Daily Life Associating Test (MHUDLAT), Matter and Heat Unit Explanation with Reasons of Evets Test (MHUERET), observations in the classroom, drawings and student and teacher interviews. The quantitative data are analysed with Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Mann Whitney U-Test, independent t-test, dependent t-test and ANOVA. The qualitative data are analysed with using content and descriptive analysis techniques. At the end of applications, it is determined that prepared guide material made statistically significant difference in students? achievement, conceptual change, associating concept with daily life, explaining events with reasons. According to conceptual understanding test results, students have some alternative conceptions like ?Glass, which is nonconductive, does not conduct heat?, it is determined that these alternative concepts are not decreased on the desired rate. Observations in the classroom and interviews showed that guide material provides the learning environment by having fun, contributes transformation of concept from abstract to perceptible. Besides, it is determined that student associating subject with daily life by using case study. Some suggestions, depending on the the results obtained are given to the researchers and educators who will work in this field.
