Evaluation of Mardin bazaar in context of sustainable conservation approaches

The aim of this study is to evaluate the Mardin Bazaar region, located in the center of the city of Mardin, which has hosted many civilizations from the past to the present, in the context of sustainable conservation approaches. Mardin bazaar has been an important area in the historical process as it is a traditional trade center that reflects the socio-economic-cultural situation of the city. The limited number of studies in this area, the limited number of conservation efforts in the bazaar with the understanding of physical preservation, the failure to adopt holistic preservation principles, and the need to consider the bazaar in terms of sustainability. In this context, the streets of the bazaar that make up the Mardin Bazaar District were defined in the light of literature review, on-site observations, interviews with tradesmen, photographs, and analysis. Information about the values, problems and potential of the region was collected and evaluated, and the result was developed. Thus, it is thought that the study will be effective in the revival of the bazaar region, it will be a reference to the scientific studies to be made about the bazaar and the region will be brought to the literature. Accordingly, in the first part of the thesis, the aim, scope and literature research of the thesis, in the second part, the conceptual framework of sustainable conservation and the bazaar, in the third part, the material and method, in the fourth part, the development process of the bazaar, its spatial and cultural structure and the physical environment analyzes that define the current situation of the bazaar and the social structure. survey study was conducted. Afterwards, the problems and potentials of the bazaar were revealed by making analyzes and evaluations. The thesis study was concluded with the conclusion part, which is the fifth chapter.
