The roles that teacher candidates cast for teacher and the effect of micro teaching method on the levels of use of technology

The changes and developments in technological field have entailed a radical change in mathematical instruction as in all spheres. As a result of this change, the importance of technology in mathematical curriculum has grown and the studies carried out to ensure mathematics teachers to be technology literate have increased in value. As is known, the training that Maths teachers take during their undergraduate education is vital for being informed of technology equipped learning environments. Microteaching method takes an important place in this training. In the scope of this study, in order for teacher candidates to be prepared for technology equipped mathematics learning environments, microteaching activities were carried out in a five week period. The sample of the study is composed of five prospective teachers, two of whom are female and three of whom are male. In this study, in which case study method was used, surveys and interviews were used as data collection tool. Each of the observations were video recorded. Level indicators of technology use and explanations about teacher roles were utilised in data analysis. When the findings were analyzed, it was seen that teacher candidates usually benefitted from technology in Level 1 in advance of microteaching. It was found that they were inclined to use technology in Level 2 and 3 after microteaching. Furthermore, while the number of the prospective teachers that featured teachers the role of instructor in technology equipped environments in advance of miroteaching was higher, it was determined that the number of teacher candidates who featured teachers as facilitator was higher at the end of micro teaching. In conclusion, it was seen that micro teaching method was effective in turning the role of teachers in technology equipped environments from instructor to facilitator and using technology at higher levels.
