Teachers' experiences on computer - assisted mathematics education

In this study, firstly a review of literatür on using computer in education and about teachers' experiences on computer - assisted mathematics education was carried out. Secondly, materials were developed as an example to offer mathematics teachers. Six mathematics teachers were volunteer to participate our course from Akçaabat, Yunus Emre Anadolu and Kanuni Anadolu high schools which have computer laboratory, for this study intend searching teachers' experiences on computer-assisted mathematics education. The course program developed at first was presented to volunteer teachers while five weeks as four hours a week in computer laboratory of K.T.Ü Fatih Education Faculty. During the course period, teachers were continuously observed. Improved manners and behaviours by teachers connected with computer - assisted mathematics education were considered by helping interviews them about course, writing notes and recording tapes. During the course, teacher who enjoyed the group-work, developed possitive attitudes towards computer-assisted mathematics education. But, they believed that the computer- assisted mathematics education will not be able to arrive its aim as long as the university enter examination system is exist in the current education system. The key issues in the course appeared to be; the duration of the course, lack of teachers' knowledge related to the computer literacy and bringing their daily problems into the course. In conclusion, the course became an "awakening" mechanism for theachers about new approaches an mathematics teaching. At the same time, the researcher was provided with the opportunity to reevaluate and develop her computer-based material for mathematics teaching in the light of teachers' experiences within the course.
