Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of mathematical modeling-supported teaching on academic success and modeling competencies in teaching the subject of circles and circular region to seventh-grade students. This research is a quantitative research and is an experimental research conducted in the static group pre-test - post-test model of the weak experimental design. The study group of this study consists of 32 students studying at the 7th grade level in a city in the Black Sea Region in the 2023-2024 academic year. While 16 students in the experimental group of this study were taught with the mathematical modeling method, 16 students in the control group were taught in accordance with the curriculum implemented in schools. 16 students in the experimental group were taught with 8 modeling activities prepared by the researcher. In addition, the circle and circular region achievement test created by the researcher was applied as a pre-test and post-test. As a result of the teaching carried out in the experimental and control groups, both teaching with modeling activities and the conventional teaching implemented in schools increased academic success. Statistically, these two teaching approaches did not differ in terms of success. Both teaching methods have been found to have a positive effect on academic achievement.
