Abstract (EN)
Mental health settings: These are dynamic spaces where patients, places, healthcare professionals, supervision and discipline interact spatially. The experience of the subject in mental health settings where daily routines take place in a specific spatial area provides information on mental hospitals. It is very important to use past conceptual frameworks as a "tool kit" to understand mental health spaces. This study includes a summary of past and current debates on space conceptualizations and mental health sociology. As a mental health space in the context of the sociology of space and mental health, Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital was chosen as the sample area in this study. Interviews were made with the staff at the Bakırköy Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Hospital on the internet regarding which daily rituals the mental health centers are based on and what kind of places the mental health centers are, observations were made even for a limited time in the hospital, and a documentary on Bakırköy, interviews and articles were examined. As a result of the examination, the mental health space affects the selves of both patients and healthcare personnel who interact with that place in the institution, and the space is more than just a "madhouse"; It is concluded that it is experienced as a "home", a "training place", "a giant garden" and a "peace area". However, this result is thought to be an imperfect reflection of the reality of the space, as patients in the space are not communicated with.
