Abstract (EN)

Water scarcity is one of the most important problems of today and future. Many coutries, who have water shortage, use seawater desalination to produce drinking water and daily using. Water shortages occasionally in settlements such as Istanbul, where the population and daily water demand increase rapidly. For this reason, seawater desalination could be supportive in terms of water supply. Within the scope of this research, the heavy metal presence in the water samples taken from different points of the Marmara Sea will be examined, then the heavy metal removal in the sea water samples will be tried. Water samples taken from the heavy metal will be subjected to desalination process, fresh water will be obtained, the rest of the remaining products (salt, etc.) will be evaluated and a desalination model will be studied. During the first phase of the project; Water samples will be taken from Princes' Islands, Florya Openings and Küçükçekmece Coast. Water samples taken, Inductively Paired Plasma-Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) device will be used to determine the presence of heavy metal. Then the water samples will be processed with a melamine based polymeric holder to be synthesized in the laboratory and heavy metal removal will be carried out. The samples will be re-examined in the ICP-MS device and the heavy metal will be removed from the water. The sea water, which is free from heavy metals, will be subjected to desalination process in the laboratory by distillation and the recoveries of fresh water, sea salt and other products will be evaluated and comments and suggestions will be made about the possible usage areas of the resulting products.
