Abstract (EN)

Streptomyces are an important group of microorganisms that have attracted great attention for their ability to produce bioactive compounds. In this study, eight actinomycete isolates were selected from M. melolontha larvae collected from three different locations (Rize, Sinop, and Samsun) in the Eastern Black Sea region, using Actinomycetes isolation agar medium. Based on morphological, biochemical, and genetic identification tests isolates were identified as Streptomyces ambofaciens, Streptomyces mirabilis, Streptomyces pluricolorescens, Streptomyces araujoniae, Streptomyces durocortorensis, Streptomyces setonii, Streptomyces antibioticus, and Streptomyces caelestis. Whole (liquid) extracts of all isolates were tested for antibacterial and antifungal activities, while crude (dry) extracts from S. pluricolorescens and S. antibioticus were screened for antiviral and anticancer properties. The antibacterial assays revealed a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In addition, antifungal activity was observed against C. albicans. Further HPLC analysis of S. pluricolorescens and S. antibioticus showed the presence of antimicrobial compounds, antiviral compounds, and antitumor compounds, along with several other bioactive metabolites. Based on HPLC analysis, tests performed using the crude extracts demonstrated strong in-vitro inhibition of HIV-1 RT and showed notable cytotoxicity in anticancer MTT assays.
